Keens Cheddar Grilled Cheese from The Cheese Truck at Maltby Street Market, Bermondsey

Saturday was a proper old stunner of a day, huh? My brother Mike came to visit and we spent most of the afternoon and evening drinking cocktails in the sunshine at Frank’s Café and Peckham Springs. We were a little worse for wear on Sunday so went out, as is traditional, in the search for some good street food. Since the hiatus of Wapping Market, Maltby Street is my local Sunday market of choice; not only because of the Little Bird gin bar selling gin bloody marys, but also because there is some excellent food on offer. I have eyed up The Cheese Truck many, many times; so today I went for it. I had what is probably their simplest option: a toasted sandwich of Keens Cheddar, ogleshield and caramelised onion on good sourdough bread. Probably one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had; the little crispy bits of cheese around the edges of the sandwich were pure heaven.
Grilled cheese sandwich was £5.00
